The long-term objective of the Human Protein Atlas project is to generate at least two antibodies for all human proteincoding genes to allow knowledge-based annotated protein expression data for the complete human proteome. The new portal contains a summary page for every human gene (Fig. 2) to allow for an easy entry point to navigate the detailed protein expression data. Mathias Uhlén får priset för att i sitt arbete ha visat kraften av ett Uhlen and colleagues also developed a new strategy for DNA analysis called Pyrosequencing, a method that has recently been further developed by 454/Roche into a so called next generation sequencing instrument. Dr Uhlen is currently working on the Human Protein Atlas project (HPA), with the aim to systematically map the human proteome. The results are presented in an updated version 19 of the Human Protein Atlas in which each gene encoding a secretome protein is annotated to provide an open-access knowledge resource of the human secretome, including body-wide expression data, spatial localization data down to the single-cell and subcellular levels, and data about the presence of proteins that are detectable in the blood. 2010-12-07 · Towards a knowledge-based Human Protein Atlas.
